Why I'm Building in Public

The case for sharing your process, mistakes, and wins as you build. Why transparency is a competitive advantage.

Building in public isn't just a trend — it's a strategy. Here's why I've decided to share everything as I build.

The Case for Transparency

Most founders hide behind polished launches. They show you the highlight reel but never the cutting room floor. I think that's a mistake.

When you build in public, you get:

  • Feedback before you ship — real people telling you what works and what doesn't
  • Trust from day one — your audience watches you earn it
  • Accountability — it's hard to quit when people are watching

What I Share (and What I Don't)

I share the process: the decisions, the trade-offs, the things that didn't work. I share revenue numbers when they're relevant. I share the tools I use and why.

What I don't share: other people's data, confidential partner information, or things that would be irresponsible to make public.

Tip

Building in public doesn't mean sharing everything. It means being intentional about what you share and why.

Getting Started

If you're thinking about building in public, start small:

  1. Pick one channel — Twitter, a blog, or YouTube
  2. Share one thing per week — a decision, a metric, a lesson
  3. Be honest — the mistakes are more valuable than the wins

The hardest part is hitting publish for the first time. After that, it gets easier.
